# glass underside of deck

I'm building a Shearwater, and I've just finished putting the glass on the underside of the deck, and I'm wondering: Do I really need to fill the weave with a second coat for any structural reason, or am I just adding unnecessary weight?

As long as the glass is fully saturated and completely adhered to the deck, extra epoxy adds only weight. Be sure to add two or three extra layers of glass behind the cockpit, though, where you sit when entering or leaving the boat. -Wes
