OK... this may sound like a pretty dumb question (at least to my ears)...

I have the Chesapeake 17 kit, and have finally determined to complete it, (after an embarrassingly long hiatus).

I'm out in the shop, about to start laying out the dry 'glass on the bottom, and realized that I have no clue as to which is which. (fiberglass, that is)

One is quite fine and one is rather course. I'm tempted to assume the coarse glass is the 6-oz., but really don't want to assume anything...

Can someone advise?

Thanks in advance.

Donald

the oz. is the weight of the fabric, per sq. yard I think… either way, the 4 oz is lighter than the 6 oz… looking at my 4oz & 6oz. the 4 is finer and thinner. Hope this helps.

Your intuition is correct, the finer cloth is the 4-oz glass (for the deck). The 6-oz glass is the coarser stuff (for the hull). The finer cloth is easier to wet out, but also easier to sand through. Enjoy the rest of your build.
