Baidarka build questions

Hi, I’m building one of Rob Mack’s baidarkas and I was wondering if anyone here has experience of building one. Specifically I’m building the Dark Star, a shorter version of the Shooting Star. One point I’d like some feedback on is the shape of the deck between stations 4,5,6 when they are all at their planned positions. While putting some test strips on the forms, there’s a distinct tight bend at station 5 at the sheer line, and an inward pinch between 5 & 6. Moving station 5 aft by an inch or so fixes that, but of course Rob would understandably prefer me to keep to the planned station positions. Everything has been double/triple checked, but of course theres always room for a mistake. Any thoughts?

I am not sure if anyone here has built any of Rob Mack’s designs. I know that several gents on the Kayak Building Facebook group have built them so you should ask there. Pictured is Nick Schade’s version of a baidarka called the Aluetesque. It was definitely a tough build.

Rather than use 3/4” wide strips at the sheer what about using 1/2” or even 3/8”? A random idea but maybe worth thinking about
