Bottom paint recomendations

I built NE Dory about 8 years ago and have used it as a row/trolling boat (no Sails). This spring I decided to get the Lug Sail kit. I am almost donne with that process and am cutting holes in the bottom of the boat now for the center board. This will necessitate a good hull sand/re-paint.

I don’t recall what paint I used originally and since I will be sanding and repainting it doesnt really matter too much. The boat sits on a trailer most of the time and never spends more than several hours in the water at a time. What is the best paint to get? do I need ablative paint in this case.. I really want low maintenance if at all possible.

Can I use something like Petite’s EZ Epoxy line where it says it is for top side but since my boat does not spend a ton of time in the water.. .maybe that is ok?

You absolutely don’t need bottom paint in your situation, certainly not ablative paint. Just give the exterior a fresh water rinse after you get it back on the trailer and you’ll be fine.

It looks like whatever paint you used last time held up pretty well.

to be honest.. it hadn’t seen much work. I have now taken off all the paint and am putting on nnew.

Now that the sailing section is in I expect it to see more action.
