Ready to raid!
After a couple of seasons of testing, we’re delighted with our Gislinge Boat replica, and we’ve decided to part with our demo model. She’s always been stored inside—and we need the room! Not currently on a trailer, but we can include a trailer at additional expense.
Our replica’s fealty to the shape of the archeological original, combined with modern wood-epoxy composite construction, resulted in a boat that looks, and—especially—feels, like a Late Viking Age working craft.
The boat includes the rig and custom-made oars, and is “turnkey,” ready to go. There are minor scuffs and scratches from ordinary use, but nothing requiring work. If the boat can be stored indoors or under a cover, she will not need refinishing for years.
This is a high-performance sailing machine. Fast, stiff, and perfectly balanced. Skippers have compared her to high-performance racing dinghies, though she’s more stable—and not as close-winded, of course! We would discourage novice sailors from taking the helm in anything other than calm conditions. This is not the boat to learn how to sail in.
Those more concerned with appearance than performance can swap the dipping lugsail for a square sail, using the same spars.
