Hi, I have just assembled the hull and it looks great! Today, I began to assemble the deck, got it together, put on the sheer panels, then realized that the joint between the rear and forward deck sections were overlapping about 1/4". How can i fix this? Should I shave down the coaming?
*****Should I shave down the outside of the coaming?
I'm not sure I understand your issue. If the butt joint between the fore and aft deck is overlapping, just trim either end up such that they meet properly in the middle. I can't see your images, so I don't know if I'm understanding your question properly.

I'm not sure I understand either. But is this any help?

Sorry… the guest password is "shearwater"
Okay, not what I was thinking, but my advice remains the same. Trim the coaming piece to match up with the deck piece and sew it up. Good luck.

Er, I said coaming piece, but I mean the two deck pieces... it's been a long day.

Want to try a direct link from photobucket to see if it can be viewed without a password. Does this work?

Ken,
The link works.
Sweb,
It looks as if the bends don't match. If this is a kit, rather than built from plans, don't shave anything. Loosen the stitches and try again. You might need to change the order in which you tighten the stitches to get the 2 parts to get a matching curve.

Just doin' what I do best..... causing confusion while trying to help. There were a couple of other pics in the album. It does look like there is a discrepancy in size between parts, but I'd be more inclined to trim the deck fore and aft. My opinion, however, should be taken with a block of salt, not just a grain, as I have no building experience with shearwaters, they do paddle nicely, though!

Well, to be taken with a ton of salt, can you try restitching, starting from the interior joints, (e.g. cockpit joint(s)) and working out towards the ends? Then when you have some left over, it will be at the bow and stern where it could be easily trimmed off.

Ken, your note had me chortling out loud ("COL"?). How many times have most of us had that feeling, that our intentions to be helpful somehow got tangled in the Web.
On other web forums, one is strung up by his ankles for inadvertently adding some momentary smoke to the room. But the CLC one has somehow evolved into a friendly and forgiving place to share ideas.
