Purchased the bow sockets from CLC to mount a batten to allow rain water to flow off the cover.  Unfortunately, I can;t find any information on where to mount them.  I'm assuming they should go on top of the gunwale amidships.  Any advice appreciated.  Thanks

I use my oarlock sockets to mount my spar rack.  I bought a pair of "Y" shaped oarlocks and pinned them to a 2x4 crossbar.  They just drop in.  Maybe you can use something similar to mount your bow as non-invasively as possible.
