Looking for advice from anyone who has installed an electric motor in the southwester dory motor well. Currently considering an epropulsion spirit 1.
I can’t offer advice, just now starting my own SW Dory. I plan to use the ePropulsion Spirit 2, short shaft. I’ve heard there is a place in Atlanta that has one in the show room you can look at. That is not to far for me, I may just tow my boat down there and and see what fits.
Jon I have pretty much settled on the spirit 1 short shaft. Will be looking at one tomorrow to make sure I get the well cutout in the best position. I expect I won’t be able to swing it up into the well, shaft too long. But otherwise it fits well enough especially if I purchase the remote battery option which involves an extra long power chord to the spirit battery located in the stern storage. That way the motor profile is reduced with a small cowl in place of the battery. Will let you know more as I learn more.
