Guider build: Bootstripe questions

I have am seeking opinions/help on a painting issue. I am at the stage where I want to order paint but I need to decide on a paint scheme. I am pretty sure what colors I like but I have never painted a boat like this and I am struggling with two related issues, whether to use a two-color scheme separated by a bootstripe, and, how to lay it out on the boat for painting. As for the first, I concede the boat might look better with two hull colors separated by a bootstripe but I am struggling with whether or not I want to do it on this go around. I.e. for simplicity, I may go with a single hull color for now. A lot depends on the second issue, understanding how to lay out a bootstripe. Consider the instructions given by CLC. They give me a single width measurement in inches and placement specs at three points along the hull, i.e. stem, stern and somewhere (not precisely specified) in the middle. I am assuming that the width of the bootstripe is the same along its whole length, i.e. that both edges of the strip are parallel? Is that assumption valid? It seem like that must be true, but? If I do this I was thinking of using a laser or water tube level to try and hit hit the stem and stern points specified by CLC. To hit those marks with a level line I would “shim” each end of the hull up until the line intersects those two points and then use the middle spec as sort of a check on the whole thing. Then I would pencil in the top line and lay out the bottom line parallel to the first using the width spec given by CLC. Does that seem like a reasonable method? I would like to have a plan before I order paint so must decide this issue pretty soon. I would welcome your opinions on this…
