The manual for my Shearwater Sport says to put the hatch weatherstripping on the inside of the hatch covers. Wondering if it might be better to put it on the hatch sill between the sill rim and the edge of the hatch opening. Appreciate any thoughts/experiences.
I put mine on the hull, not the hatch.
The main advantage of keeping the gasket on the hull is keeping dirt off the gasket that can be picked up by a spongy surface.
If you put the gasket on the hatch itself, it is more likely to get dirty or subject to forces that makes it want to pull away.
In the hull, it will only see compression.
Thanks Howard. That’s what I’ll do. Does seem like you’d get a better seal, since the weatherstripping is already in the channel where it’s supposed to be, between the sill rim and the edge of the deck.
