NE Dory, Transom

Been struggling with the transom, but I think I’m good to wire it in now.

It was pretty squirrelly so I pulled the transom forward and let the panels lay out. Since the panels are supposed to be “wild” and extend past the transom I wired the first panel together with some copper wire. I started like it’s depicted, but tightened up further. Then did the same to the third panel.

Then I dropped the transom back onto the wires and I think I have found the right position for it, with the panels aligned to the notches. If I drill holes and wire it in place, the panels will extend about a 1/4" past the back of the transom. For that top panel I drilled a hole in front and behind the transom.

Does that look and sound right? Panels aligned with the notches, just under a 1/4" of panel extension beyond the transom? If so I will wire it in.

My planks extended past the transom as well (SW Dory). You’ll sand them flush later.

" If I drill holes and wire it in place…"
Make sure to use the factory holes in the planks and transom. You can add some if you need to, but you shouldn’t need to make an entirely new set of holes. Maybe I’m misunderstanding though.

As noted in the other post - if you’ve stitched everything up with the transom square - perpendicular - to the hull “keel” line, and all lapstrakes are fitting up well to each other and the transom, it matter not if you have ends extending beyond the transom, or even if all ends are not protruding the same amount. You’ll plane/sand them flush as you proceed with the build.
