Hi,
I am building an Oxford Shell. I have recently installed the sked socket. I discovered that the skeg is not perfectly vertical, although it is inline with the keel. (It could be that I pushed the skeg holder out of vertical when applying the epoxy on the inside.)
Aside from aesthetics I have been wondering whether that would affect tracking at all. If it does, what would be the best way to fix it.
A work-around would be to bend the skeg so that it sits vertical when installed. Obviously, that's a bit of a hack and I was wondering whether there are other solutions:
Soften the epoxy with a heatgun and reposition the skeg holder. Is that reasonable/practical for such a large area? Will the wood or the expoxied fiberglass on the outside of the hull suffer?
Fill the existing slot and cut a new slot with a router. Not sure how accurate that would be.
Other ideas?
Thanks!
