Northeastern Does Cover

Need help as to how to put cover on the dory. Just received CLC cover but the instructions are generic and do not cover, no pun intended, the dory cover

  1. Put the cover loosely onto the boat.
  2. Secure it at the bow through the tie-down loop
  3. Secure it at the stern through the tie-down loop
  4. Adjust the support pole so that it raises the vent as high as it can over the boat. Note that the support pole may rest on a thwart or the floor, depending on where the vent was installed.
  5. Secure the sides through the tie-down loops. Make sure that the drawstring is pulled over and under the outer gunnels.
  6. Pull the drawstring as tight as possible so that it seals the cover against the hull under the gunnels and tie it off.

When you’re done, you want the cover to be drum tight, secured to the gunnels and tied down with the straps going under the hulls. This way any rain will run off without forming a puddle on the cover. If the cover isn’t sitting this way, loosen the tie-downs and drawstring and re-adjust them. You may also have to re-adjust the height and position of the support pole. It’s sort of like wiring the hull. Once you get it right, you’ll know how to repeat it the next time. It does get faster with practice.

The final variation is what to tie the cover to. You can loop the tie-downs under the boat or tie them to the trailer. You can go to the matching loop on the other side or criss-cross them in pairs. The bow and stern loops and the drawstring ends can be tied to the trailer. There’s no set rules, just whatever gives you the highest, tightest peak.
