I just refinished a cedar strip canoe (Pat Moore Peter Pond II) that I built 40 years ago in preparation to giving it to a friend (as I get older I am trying to reduce my fleet). While I always stored it inside he is going to need to store it outside during the summer and fall. The boat covers sold by CNC (brand name Sun-Dura) seem to be made from standard Sunbrella (or equivalent) polyester fabric which is water resistant but not waterproof. The boat will be stored off the ground on a rack. The gunnels on this boat are Sitka spruce. A fabric that is water resistant would seem fine for the hull but I wonder about the gunnels. Thoughts?
