Passagemaker single hull-possible to retrofit it into a “take-apart”?

Hello, I’m new here so please be gentle. I have some woodworking experience but have never built a boat.

I have been researching the longest take apart sailboat I could manage with a lug rig and still car top/store indoors in my basement for winter, etc. The PMD take apart seems to fit the bill nicely.

I’ve seen a few for sale but rarely the take-apart version. I am thinking to buy a used one rather than build from scratch.

Is it possible to retro fit a single hull version into a take apart?

Who could I contact at CLC to ask?

I may have some help from a local chapter of TSCA that work on boats and 2 members have built the PMD as a take-apart. They said to ask CLC about this possibility.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you.

The general contact info for CLC is accessed from their web page. On the top right portion of the window there’s a menu with an “About” entry. Click on it and you’ll get a dropdown that has a “Contact Us” entry. Click on that and you’ll get to the customer service page. (I’ve included links here so you can get there directly.)

The “How to Reach Us” section has their phone number if you want to try calling. You can also email them using the form at the bottom of the customer service page.

Another possibility is to have CLC do the work for you. You can provide the boat and they can, if it’s possible, turn it into a take-apart for you. This has the advantage that the work is done at CLC by CLC staff with all the correct and recommended materials and the entire design and production staff there to help, if required. It will cost more than doing it yourself but it will be done right. For more info, check out the CLC Custom Boatbuilding Shop.

Good luck, sounds like an interesting project. Definitely talk to the CLC folks about this.

Thanks for your reply Laszlo. I sent them an email and will update here the response. I am sure others have asked the same question, but, I can’t find the answer online.
