I got the plans the other day, plan on doing an open cockpit surfski style.....Used 1/8'' baltic birch for the hull......I weigh 155....so I took 1/2'' from each 12'' offsets, I took an inch and a half off the sheer reducing freeboard....this will be a flat water lake paddler.....https://www.facebook.com/873126389409471/photos/pcb.1065273366861438/1065272840194824/?type=3
For someone who just got the plans the other day, you're moving right along.
Laszlo
I have about 10 hours in it so far.....I need to keep track of my time on this one, being it is my 21 boat,I've built.....kayak building is addictive.....

Why the surfski style cockpit for a flat water lake boat? Have you settled on a footbrace/rudder combination?

I did the opposite with the shear line by raising it 40mm. Look forward to seeing yours progress.

The reason to build one...I got the chance to paddle a 19' ×19" ski the other day, suprising how stable it was, Yea we changed kayaks in deep water without falling in.......I am putting sturn rudder with a tiller bar foot rest.....I am looking for a cutaway view of a ski cockpit, I need to know how much higher the foot well is to drain water.....
Craig I went through all your info and everything else I could find on the net, nice build.....
Since you build is for flatwater, have you considered a closed bailer such as an Anderson mini bailer? Epic use them n their skis.
I've seen a couple of Pax 20's modified into surf-skis. Not a trivial project. This one, done by a builder named Robinson, is from the early 2000's. Beautifully executed!
Thanks John. It does attract a bit of attention when I take it out.
Decks glued down....trying to post a pic.....
I got a deal years ago on sheets of closed cell foam it is 3/4" thick black and white laminated together.....I have been carving my seats from this.....grinding through the laminated stacked lock it is easy to see how deep you are grinding....Just need to dye or paint the white foam.....
Looking good.
A few pics. This paddles great need to finish it, drain etc...it is 19' ×18.5"
Love the black hull. Painted or graphite?
