I have a new to me Peapod. I would like to do some dinghy cruising, and overnight. It would be easy to use the yawl mast holes to support a tent. The issue is that the centerboard trunk sticks up a bit. In the photo you can see that it is rounded. I’m wondering whether there would be any problem with cutting it off flat since at both ends. It is lower than the middle anyway. Anyone with any experience sleeping on a mattress on the boat would be welcome to chime in. Looking forward to getting it in the water.
I wouldn’t do that. The handle moves in an arc and the CB trunk provides lateral support. It also shields the handle . Without that top curve, the exposed CB handle would be more prone to getting snagged by stray lines which could then pull it left and right. Without that support there would be a better chance of stressing the CB and possible damaging it.
Even if you did cut it down, the handle would still stick up above the thwart level and give you a good poke as you rolled over in your sleep.
And it would look funny.
