Perimeter lines

I have a used Chesapeake 17 and a Shearwater 17 kit. I want to add perimeter lines to both of them. What is the best way to do this?

Personally, for the CH17 I like oval head silicon bronze screws and brass finish washers holding a loop of polypropylene webbing which the perimeter line goes through. The screws go through the webbing and deck into the sheer clamp giving you an anchor strong enough to pick the boat up by. Don’t forget to either drill-fill-drill or put a dab of silicone sealant into the hole before putting in the screw.

Don’t know enough about the Shearwater’s structure to make a recommendation.

i agree with Laszlo…the loop of polypropylene webbing attached to the hull with washer and wood screws for the CLC 17 and for the Shearwater, attached with a stainless steel bolt backed by a washer and nut (becuase there is no sheer clamp to screw into).

the washers you need are flanged washers these: https://clcboats.com/shop/products/boat-building-supplies-epoxy-fiberglass-plywood/stainless-steel-flanged-finish-washer.html and they also are available in bronze for the clc17 which would match the bronze wood screws. you can also use stainless steel washers and wood screws for the clc 17…you just don’t want to mix stainless and bronze.

the flanged washers are nice becuase you want to minimize the attachment points hight above deck and providing anything that can hook your clothes.

below is a picture of my shearwater 17 and how i did the perimeter lines. i basically just used the webbing loops for the bungee cords to also handle the perimeter line.

for perimeter line you would use https://clcboats.com/shop/products/boat-gear/perimeter-line.html. you can also shop online for similar line…i found one brand that is in the picture that has reflective flecks in it which is nice for night paddling.

If you want an easily understandable tutorial on the straps, you can watch one of Nick Shade’s videos on his website.

Did you use the same webbing loop for the bungie and the deck line? In other words the bungie and deck line go through the same loop.

yes,

in the pictures i sent and in the approach i generally take, i use the the same webbing loop for the bungie and deck lines. seems to look and work fine IMHO and less holes in the boat
