Waterline scribing time. I leveled the boat, and traced the <Dr. Evil voice> “Laser” line all around. The reference point (each side) was 16 1/2” from bottom of keel, as per instructions. The lines merged very neatly at the bow. At the transom however, one side ends 11” from skeg, the other 12 1/2” inches away. Even a small error is really magnified here as the surface is very oblique to plane of laser (at least that’s what I’m telling myself!). Now what? I don’t want the paint across bottom part of transom to be crooked. Should I fair skinnier out, the fat one in? Split the difference? that pencil tip shows where the laser line ended on the other side of boat
I think I’d split the difference and fudge it a bit. I wouldn’t paint a crooked line on. You could just take your boat out for a season and let the water and algae stain show you what to do.
