Sanding Block for Wet Sandpaper

I don’t know if this is common knowledge but I’ll put it out here. I made some sanding blocks for wet sanding the interior cockpit section of my Mill Creek 13 that have really been working well.

I made the backing plate out of a plastic cutting board. Then I sprayed a heavy coat of 3M adhesive to both the plastic and a common kitchen sponge, put them immediately together. Next do the same for the 400 grit wet sandpaper. For fillets make the backing plate about 3/8” smaller all around to sand the fillets.

Cool. In the past when I’ve wanted a yielding support surface for the paper I’ve just used closed cell foam, but this solution looks as if it’ll work better. The hard backing to hold it by seems especially useful.

What ever makes sanding easier/better I’m all for. The best tip I’ve received of all was “use a chip brush with unthickened epoxy on the fillets while still soft to smooth out the ripples”. That saved me hours of horrible finger tip sanding. Thanks!
