Started my build SW Dory

Since I have to reach the rudder gudgeon hardware I moved the Sea Dog oval hatch about 2” aft. Sea dog ovals have a lip inside the bottom of the flange so I ended up cutting the hole the size of the middle of the flange then using my combo square to draw a series of dashed lines about an 1/8th wider than the inside line. Then I just free hand sketched the oval again and cut again. My doubler looks a little crude compared to the Seadog flange. But it should be sound. I’ll sand it in place after t…

Started my build SW Dory

The aft hatch doubler is encapsulated and filleted. Flange and deck mating surfaces were scuffed with sandpaper. The Oval hatch flange is bedded in G-Flex thickened with cell O Fill and I used graphite to make it black so it matches the flange. It’s my first time using G-flex, we will see. Portside seat to footwell reinforcement has three coats of unthickened epoxy on top and starboard side has two. Top strake encapsulation continues. [IMG_3643] [IMG_3642]

Forward hatch doubler echoes the process aft. After a stressful work day it feels surprisingly good to build a boat. The aft hatch is in and I’m very happy with it.
