I am building the Cheasapeake 16lt. I cut the sheer clamps to 180 inches as per the chart in the manual. I then measured 5" from the bow (top edge) and 4" from the stern (top edge) as stated in the manual. When I place the sheer clamps on the panels they are 7/8 inches too long. Should I recut the clamps to fit to the lines on the panels?
I have built a 16LT, 17LT and currently building a Sport Tandem. On the Chesapeake design, exact length of the shear clamps is unimportant. You can either shorten what you have or glue and trim if needed later. If they are too long, the only issue that you have is that the shear clamps will hit each other when you stitch the bow and/or stern together. If too short, your end pour will be a little bigger/heavier. Pictured is the bow of my SportTandem build. If you look closely you can see that I had to trim some material from the inside of the shear clamps. No big deal be happy drink rum.
Mark,
Thanks. My first build.
