Wood Duckling building

Would someone like to venture an explanation why there are NO floation chambers on a child's kayak?????All the forward bulkheads are labeled temperary on the plans.  Give the kid a kayak and watch it sink bow first and if lucky the stern will keep it afloat.   This strikes me as some POOR design on the part of a well respected company.  (Plans are dated 2010, if I read it correctly)

The rear compartment on my WD12 has proven to be water tight so far. Floatation bags are good insurance and easier to do than a forward compartment. Since the boat is wood it will float and with a PFD, so should the occupant.

Invest in a couple NRS triangle float bags and you are good to go. This is a fantastic little boat!

I've got 2 Holt 40# Opti flotation bags in my EP after an ugly unrecoverable swamping incident last summer.
