Hello, I’m new to the fourm and new to sailing so please forgive my ignorance. I’m looking into building an Eastport Pram as my first boat build. I’d also like to modify it into a sort of micro SCAMP build with a little cabin up front. I’m curious if anyone has advice on feasibility and what obstacles there might be? Right now my two concerns is if the boat can bear the additional weight, and also the daggerboard running through the cockpit is kind of in the way of sleeping if I were to try camping with it.
As a first time builder with no sailing experience, the likelihood that you can make a modification like that is extremely remote. You just don’t know what you don’t know. A better idea is to find a design that already has what you are looking for. There are a number of micro cruiser designs out there by experienced designers similar to what you propose. I suggest that you start by looking at the Ocean Explorer by Micheal Storer.
It’s funny you say that I actually just stumbled across that plan a few minutes ago. Looks a lot like what I’m looking for thanks for the insight.
