Hello I'm building a passagemaker. Would appreciate some advice re the best way to create the foil shape on the daggerboard and rudder. I was planning to start with a block plane and then finish with hand sanding. Kind of concerrned about screwing it up. Thanks for the input.
John,
What you're proposing certainly would work. Just go slowly and don't try to take off too much at once.
I've had good luck with a belt sander and #60 paper. Whichever tool you feel most comfortable with and that you can control best is the right one to use.
Good luck,
Laszlo
I usually use a block plane to remove lots of wood then random orbital sander or block of wood with sandpaper attached (I have lots of different sized sanding blocks). Plywood is easy to shape as the laminations in the wood can be used as a guide for getting things symmetrical. A template of the finished shape is very useful!
Thx guys fot the pix and advice.
