The 1-1/4" screws used to secure the 3/4" thwart boards provide a wee bit less than 1/2" of bite into the thwart support blocks. From those of you with dory experience, does that work? Has anyone else come up with any ideas for a way to secure the thwart boards that has more than a half inch of a small screw to bite. I know there is another thread talking about using rope or peg thru the bulkhead but I am wondering if anyone did anything creative with screws? Maybe one good size screw on each side down into the bulkhead?
They seem to be quite adequate on my dory.
In boat school the rule of thumb was equal bite to thickness of wood, but with that said every builder I worked for and boats I had done on my own that is plenty of bite and you save a wee bit of weight.
