I'm not crazy about glassing, but have sheathed the hull of my C16, and am about to glass the cockpit area, but do I really need to do the decks ?

You don’t really have to, but if you don’t, you might really be sorry a few years down the road. The glass adds a lot of strength and protection and makes a better base for a nice finish, painted or varnished. I strongly recommend you glass the deck unless you have an important technical reason not to. Good luck.
