Jimmy Skiff II Transom Doubler

The transom doubler lines up fine at the top, but the doubler overhangs everywhere else. Is this right? If so, does anything need to be done like trimming it flush or beveling the edges?

Okay, sorry to be such a dunce but I have finally forced this very issue to surface in my memory.  I experienced the exact same thing you are describing.  My "fix" (for what it's worth) was to center the doubler keeping the bottom flush with the bottom of the boat, feeling in the sides as I centered it.  No measuring, just a closed eye feel.  I then sanded the entire works until I was satisfied with the fit.  If I have any pictures that may be of help I can send them to you outside the Forum.

Oh, right, now I remember.  Exactly what happend to me.  Please ignore what I previously said.  If I recall correctly I kept the bottom and one side flush.  The excess was worked off but I don't recall exactly how, profanity was likey one of the tools used.

Here is a crude drawing.  The overhang is about 1/4 inch.

I have not built the Jimy Skiff II, so I am unfamiliar with what you are seeing or asking about.

I will say, however, on my Rhode Runner, which has a doubled transom, the two parts of the transom were designed to align at the top, with the inner board slightly smaller in dimension on all other sides.  The outer transom board is sized to meet flush with the hull planks during fit-up, the gap between the inner transom board and the hull planks was purposely designed to be filled with filet epoxy.

This MIGHT be the answer to what you are seeing.

Hello leroy49,  I seem to recall bumping into this issue during my build and fussing over it far more that was necessary.  Keep it flush with the top of the transom and you should be good to go.  It may look a smidge off putting if you are going to varnish but once on the water you will quickly forget about it and it will dissapear.  Do know that you are building a great boat.
