A main place that I sail is a sailing club on a lake. There is no useable beach, only docks. There is a semi submersible dock for launching lasers. This works ok for launching the sailrig by getting the boat halfway in the water, getting in the cockpit, then scooting yourself all the way in. However getting out that way doesn’t work, the dock is too high to get the bow onto. I tried getting right along side the dock, taking a big step from the cockpit to the ama, then quickly clamoring onto the dock before it sank underneath me and hoping the boat didn’t get pushed away before I got grab it. It was sketchier than I’d hope for. The other ideas I’ve had are 1) leave a paddle board attached to the dock that I can float under the akas, hop onto, then work my way out from between the akas to get on the dock and then haul the boat up the submergeable dock. 2) attach a strap or two between the akas like a mini trampoline and do a slightly less sketchy step from cockpit to strap to dock. 3) bring the stern just along side the dock, but not so far that the ama hits the dock, then do a sort of reverse cowboy scramble off the stern and onto the dock. Any elegant solutions?
I vote the strap/mini trampoline option. Could be removable or a nice place to hike out on pending your setup.
I had the same issue when I had a Hobie tandem but I could collapse the aka’s and pull my self in. Eventually we put trampolines on and it was a non issue.
