Anybody use Meranti for Pocketship. Curious if the heavier weight is that big of a deal. Thanks.
I recall a post by John Harris saying that extra ballast is often beneficial for Pocketship because it was designed as a cruising boat and that its design waterline reflects the assumption that it will be loaded with supplies, gear and people whereas most are used as daysailers and ride high. If your plans are to primarily be daysailing, the meranti’s extra weight shouldn’t be a problem. If you’re going to be cruising you may need to adjust your loading.
Happy New Year,
Laszlo
Daysailing would be the main use. Probably singlehanded most of the time.
