I read the Addendum for the TLRNDSI (Thwart for the Lug Rig in a Northeaster Dory with Spacered Inwales). What I find confusing is that the pics on page 21 and 22 don’t match; the thwart is not flush to the seat frame in the first pic, but it is in the second.
Things make more sense to me if I ignore the first picture. Here’s my interpretation of the correct procedure – looking for confirmation:
- Set the spacers as described, except at the first seat from the bow, use a 16" spacer extending 3" past the seat frame toward the transom.
- Once the inwale is in, epoxy the TLRNDSI flush against the seat frame.
- The mast rake is ultimately determined by the position of the thwart partner — specifically where you cut the square and drill the holes.
So my understanding is that placing the TLRNDSI flush against the seat frame is correct, and I don’t need to worry about dialing in the exact mast rake until I’m cutting and drilling the thwart partner. Is that right?
