NED Inwales Lug Rig (TLRDNSI)

I read the Addendum for the TLRNDSI (Thwart for the Lug Rig in a Northeaster Dory with Spacered Inwales). What I find confusing is that the pics on page 21 and 22 don’t match; the thwart is not flush to the seat frame in the first pic, but it is in the second.

Things make more sense to me if I ignore the first picture. Here’s my interpretation of the correct procedure – looking for confirmation:

  1. Set the spacers as described, except at the first seat from the bow, use a 16" spacer extending 3" past the seat frame toward the transom.
  2. Once the inwale is in, epoxy the TLRNDSI flush against the seat frame.
  3. The mast rake is ultimately determined by the position of the thwart partner — specifically where you cut the square and drill the holes.

So my understanding is that placing the TLRNDSI flush against the seat frame is correct, and I don’t need to worry about dialing in the exact mast rake until I’m cutting and drilling the thwart partner. Is that right?
