northeaster dory with spacered inwales

I have my bulkheads built and getting ready to cut 7/8" off of the top of bulkheads 1,2&3 (scary) to make rome for the spacered inwales. I can not find in the combined manuals the time to cut, but it seems like the time to do it. Before I stitch the hull together. Any thoughts?

Thanks Larry

PS: First time boat builder and very nervous.

I’ve done it both ways and found it a bit hard to cut baulkheads after filleting them. I have a small circular saw (3 1/2 inch) using a guide stick to keep the saw level. I tried to cut them free hand and regretted it. I now cut them before installing them…be sure to only cut off the width of the inhales (of course you already knew this)

Whoops.
…Be sure to cut off the inwales… not inhales or you will pass out

Thanks, that was my thought to cut them before I stitch it all together.

I cut them off after the outwhales were on. I used a router freehand. It worked well. I was a bit worried about cutting into the plywood but slow and steady worked well.

Larry,

Great decision. The spacered inwales add dramatically to the strength of a boat.

Happy Thanksgiving,
