Hi all. I’m planning on fitting a four stroke outboard to my PocketShip. My question is … short or long shaft?
I have recently seen a short shaft motor fitted to a PocketShip, which required the lifting mounting bracket to be installed quite low on the transom - the two lower mounting bolts of the bracket went through into the lazarette, and the upper two bolts emerged inside the cockpit, above the seat deck.
It occurs to me that a long shaft motor might also fit perfectly well if the mounting bracket was installed higher up on the transom, such that all four mounting bolts emerged into the cockpit.
Does anybody have any experience or views on this? I’m inclined to think that a long shaft might be the better choice, simply because it could be easier to install.
Your opinions would be welcome. Thank you!
