I just purchased a used Passagemaker take apart, and brought it home about 60 miles using a 53 inch wide hitch mount cargo carrier on the back of my Rav4. The front section, sail and boom fit inside the car. I strapped the mast to the roof. I was a bit worried about the part sticking up over the roof getting blown around by wind, but driving between 50 and 55 mph for most of the way it did not really shift or rattle at all. I used some old mattress topper foam to keep the boat from scratching against the back of the car. I may eventually get a small trailer, but for now this seems to work nicely!

While I had my Mercedes GLK 250, I would just top it. It fit nicely with wide transverse rails and I never had any difficulty at speed on the highway (your set up looks a bit sketchy to me for speed). I used 2 x 4 “ladders” hung from the transverse rails and walked it up the side of the vehicle.
Thanks for the pictures. I have thought about something like your setup. I have done one more trip with the hitch rack approach, which was fine up to 55 mph but showed some signs shifting over that speed. However overall it is more solid than I would have predicted.
I still may just get a 4x8 folding trailer to strap it down to…
