So after circling around this site and viewing and reviewing most of Nick Schade’s videos and books for the last 3 years, I finally pulled the trigger on cedar strip Petrel Play kit from CLC. I decided to get the complete kit as it would have all (or most) of the bits and pieces needed for this first project.
One thing that delayed me was a major move from west coast Florida (Sarasota) to North East Ohio (Medina , just west of Akron) and putting together a 4 seasons shop space in converted barn. I had full woodworking shop in Fla that I liquidated to make the move and finally getting equipped here over the last summer.
I have the setup to mill strips but decided to get those provided in the complete kit for this build, with CNC forms and strong back provided as well.
Then moving forward to other builds, I would be sourcing rough cedar and other woods and milling strips and cutting forms for other designs in my shop
My woodworking experience is mostly furniture and cabinets but I have done some fiberglass boat repair /refinishing and have solid experience with various marine coatings and materials.
Also looking forward to moving towards more hand tool techniques and less of the big power tool operations, although I know I will still be using my Festool sanders and dust extractor setup quite a bit
This site has been a wealth of information on all topics relating to building small craft and I am sure I will be availing myself of that knowledge moving forward
So we just got 4” of snow today and the MAS epoxy kit landed on the doorstep, ahead of the big boxes in route via freight, due early next week. I am stoked to start this winter project!
