I have a Passagemaker that was completed by another builder. The boom shattered just below the gooseneck and the gooseneck joint to boom separated. I have attached photos. Question… Can I epoxy glue and clamp the shattered pieces together then reinforce with strips of glass cloth and epoxy and have a structurally sound repair? Any ideas or do I need to replace the boom?
If that was mine I’d try the repair. As you say, epoxy and clamp to put it back together.
In terms of glass, I’d try a strip of unidirectional glass along the bottom (threads oriented lengthwise along the boom), spanning the break, maybe 13 oz or so. That would give really good resistance to the crack being pulled open again.
A second strip of the same stuff (same orientation) along the top would help resist new breakage the other direction.
I don’t think I’d bother glassing the sides. It would have to be a really strong wind and you’d have to completely lose control of your mainsheet to apply enough twist to the boom for it to need that kind of reinforcement.

Thank you! I’ll give it a shot.
