I am building a Cheasapeake 16LT. I just completed an 8 foot section of a 16 foot work table out of 3/4 plywood and 2x4s. Should I fill in the screw holes with wood filler on the plywood table top? They are countersunk. Will the exposed holes cause problems? Thanks.
Nope. As long as countersunk you are fine. Certainly makes it easier to disassemble at end of project.
Fwiw,my standard table was a 4x8 3/4 inch cut in half the long way…so basically a 2 foot by 16 foot table. Then when done, i would disassemble…and use for the next project

Howard,
Thanks. That was my rational for going with 3/4 ply. It is more versatile than ½. The thing is a heavy beast though and I’ve only done one section.
For building our Chester Yawl, I covered my Table Saw and Outfeed table with one 4x8x3/4 sheet of plywood, (sheet plastic covering the table saw). Then I added two saw horses, set to match the TS height, to support another 4x8 sheet. The two 4x8 sheets were joined only with 1x4 mending straps coupling both sides of the sheets (3/4 inch wood screws) not counter sunk as the straps were outside the build area.
This I covered with strips of plastic to keep the plywood flat and easily remove any epoxy spills.
It worked well and, other than dealing with the weight of a 3/4 sheet of plywood, was easy to setup a 4x16’ workspace. Yawl went into the water for the first time on Friday. It floats! YAY! ![]()
I think it may be easy to over think the workspace. Having horizontal surfaces for EVERYTHING else is the challenge
