I just started to (very slowly) assemble my newly purchased Eastport nesting pram kit. I noticed that the schematics, pictures, and instructions for assembling the daggerboard trunk are a little unclear. I see two plywood panels, and two pieces of wood to act as spacers between them. In my kit, one piece of wood is a bit longer than the other, and somewhat oddly shaped. It's hard for me to visualize it, and so I figured I would ask before breaking out the epoxy and making my misunderstandings permanent. Does anyone have a better set of pictures of the daggerboard trunk assembly that might help?
Thanks,
Dave
Hey Dave,
I made my daggerboard out of two layers of 1/4" to make 1/2" thick. Then I used 3 layers of 1/4" ply as spacers between the daggerboard case sides. This allows room for the epoxy on the inside of the case and the outside of the daggerboard.
I laid the daggerboard centered on top of the side to find how wide to make the spacers front and back with room for epoxy and a little wiggle room so it's easy to slide in and out. My spacers were cut from scrap since I plan built.
Here's a few blog entries that have to do with the daggerboard case:
