Passagemaker advice please

I am looking to build a small sailboat that is light enough to haul in and out of the water and the Passagemaker looks ideal but for one concern. There is no side gunwale seating and the photos show people sitting in the bottom of the boat to sail in any breeze. This looks uncomfortable and wet.

I know it is small but it looks like some side seating could be installed in the rear section, either at the gunwale or at the regular seat level. The footwell would be smaller but not impossible.

Has anyone tried this? Any opinions on viability/sense?

Thanks a lot

Graham

I have this question too… @Graham_Openshaw did you figure something out?

I made up some moveable side seats:

Passagemaker Side Seats

…from 4’ long “craft board” from Home Depot, cut to length to fit between the frames above the seats and fitted with little rubber feet and a spacers for the forward ends. They can be moved inboard or outboard as needed, depending on wind strength and direction. Yes, the boat would be more stable and visibility better if you sat on the bottom, but I am getting too old to sit on the floor anymore. The photos should be self explanatory, but sing out if you have any questions.

I’ve since replaced these with 12” wide boards for more comfort. Seems there ain’t as much cush in my tush as I’ve gotten older. <;-)
